6th Grade Service
Environmental sustainability is the service theme for 6th graders. Throughout the year in advisory, we talk about what it means to live “sustainably.” Students learn firsthand what it means to live “sustainably” by working with the following community partners:
The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education
Weavers Way Coop
Weavers Way’s organic, community farm at Awbury Arboretum. The coop focuses on harvesting locally grown vegetables and selling them at local markets.
Friends of the Wissahickon
The mission of the Friends of Wissahickon is to preserve the natural beauty and wildness of the Wissahickon Valley and stimulate public interest. On service learning field trips students occasionally participate in trail maintenance projects.
The Audubon Society
The mission of the
Audubon Society is to conserve and restore ecosystems, focusing on
birds, other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and
the earth's biological diversity. On service learning field trips
students learn about creating native habitats for birds and insects.
