Character Education and Core Values

Please refer to Dr. Tinari's Virtual Mail Bag from January 2009 to learn more about our character education program and core values.

"Since I last wrote on the topic early in the school year, we have been continuing our work on the community curriculum and character education program.  You may recall that we began last year with a Middle School – wide initiative to help the girls examine their behavior, identify meanness and name and set their own standards for the school culture they wanted to create.

"We also set out to name those values and character traits that would form a solid foundation for the girls as they moved through the Middle School years.  Under the heading, What Do You Stand For?, we identified honesty, empathy, integrity, respect, courage and citizenship as values to direct the character education work.  In advising, service and our regular assemblies and special gatherings, we have created opportunities for the girls to define and understand these values, describe how they influence our day to day interactions and provide venues to enact them."
